I had to catch up on a few days worth of posts but i'd agree with the Blue Jay followers here ...
There is almost a 0% chance of Accardo being the closer if Ryan can't go. In fact as was mentioned theres a much much bigger chance he won't even make the team. I'd say it would be Downs if healthy followed by League/Carlson. Probably Carlson initially but possibly League later in the season.

I have Hoffman as my 2nd closer with Jenks. With the DL concerns should I pick up Villanueva or McClung?

Despite what he's saying now, I see the M's revisiting the whole Morrow to the rotation issue later this season or early 2010. I'm sure they'd rather not have 2 of their past 3 first round picks become late inning relievers...
Well, this move does put a lot of pressure on Aumont becoming a top of rotation talent which he could do.

i see burton listed as next in line behind francisco cordero on the front page, but i'm curious if anyone has insight as to whether dusty might be more inclined to go with weathers over burton because of his experience. i sure hope he doesn't, and i read some pretty glowing comments from baker about burton at some point late last year or in the off season. i don't trust cordero further than i can throw him right now.

Last year he had a 1.15 whip.

Did he lose his control this winter? Or doth we speak from amongst our rear?

Career BB/9 of 5.91. His WHIP was that low last year due to him not giving up a lot of hits and having an unsustainable BABIP of .218.

it's basically impossible to have a 4.73 BB/9 and sustain a WHIP anywhere near that low. He had an unsustainably low 5.56 H/9 due to an .218 BABIP. Once that regresses he'll end up with a whip around 1.35 IMO. It'd take some pretty big leaps in control for him to return to last years level.
