I checked out the rotoworld link on Downs (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... LB&id=2999).

Rotoworld's source for the DL speculation is a twitter post by MLB.com's Jordan Bastian: "X-rays negative on Downs' left foot. MRI tomorrow. Seems like a likely DL case."

I've never seen twitter used for this before, personally, and it's pretty amusing. Obviously, not much detail is offered as to why he thinks the DL is likely.

There's this from Fanhouse:

An X-ray taken Tuesday was negative, but Downs is scheduled for an MRI on Wednesday, and the way he was limping after the game, the disabled list seems like a strong possibility.

Again the speculation seems to center on the fact that Downs was limping. So not much to go on yet.

the front page says League is next in line.... but it's Frasor, no?

I think it's safe to say that it won't be League. It could be Frasor, he has been very good this year and his numbers are as good if not better than Downs'. The other possibility is, of course, BJ Ryan, who has been very good lately. If Ryan and Frasor were available in my league right now, I'd add Frasor.

Hopefully Downs is OK though.

The other possibility is, of course, BJ Ryan, who has been very good lately. If Ryan and Frasor were available in my league right now, I'd add Frasor.

Hopefully Downs is OK though.

Definitely Frasor. He's the only guy Cito trusts at this point after League's blowup on the weekend.

Your mom. Despite the usage of the bullpen recently wouldn't you rather see BJ Ryan with his experience out there for the first crack since he has been good lately? Wasn't the only time Frasor has closed when he was splitting time with Justin Speier? These losers better not start blowing wins for Halladay (btw is he ok for his next start from what you hear?)

On another subject, who might the Phillies go after if Lidge is done and they don't want to keep using Madson? Their bullpen is setup very nicely when Lidge is good with Madson being great setting up and Romero a very good lefty specialist. With Romero-Madson going 8th-9th things are only going to get ugglier I think. Is Colorado playing too well to deal Street now? Who else is out there?

Not sure if you've noticed, but Halladay doesn't often come out of games, so it doesn't really matter who is setting up or closing.

I actually think it'll be Ryan. Frasor has been pretty dominant in the set-up role, and a lot of managers don't like to mess with that. As noted, Ryan has been better lately, and it took a complete collapse to get him out of the role in the first place. I just hope they're smart enough to put Downs back in as the Closer when he comes back.

Skins: Halladay has 3 CG and I doubt that rate will increase with how many IP he has already. So he has, and will continue to, depend on the bullpen, although I agree it is to a lesser extent than most starters.

No, I don't want the Beej anywhere near a high-leverage situation right now. His string of successful outings have come suspiciously without many strikeouts. I don't think he's even close to being back to his effective self, and I'm not sure he ever will be.

Frasor had the job most of 2004, if I'm remembering correctly. I think Speier also had the role that year at some point too.

Halladay usually goes 8 innings anyway...not a huge chance of a blowup when you are handing it off to your best reliever (who now will be changed from Downs to Frasor ). We'll find out more about Doc after his bullpen session this afternoon. If he feels good, he'll start Saturday. If he doesn't, he'll probably go on the DL.
