How about Ryan Madsen of Philly? He seems to have good ERA/WHIP, about a K per inning, and 12 holds on the season (my league has Holds as a cat). JJP has been killing me lately, and while I'm not dropping him, I've picked up Madsen to give me some holds without killing my ratios.
He was warming up to come into the game during the 8th when the Rays were down 2-1. The Rays got one on, but got two quick outs before Upton hit a homer to put the Rays up, so its not like Maddon had him warming up because it was a save opp. In fact it looked very much like he would come in with the score 2-1.
With that said, he came in and dominated the inning and is definitely the best reliever in the pen. Still, Maddon is a weird guy and likes to use his pen a certain way. I don't think there is any one guy that he is going to anoint his closer and get a majority of save opps right now. IMO, if the Rays were up going into the bottom of the 8th, it would have been Wheeler coming in the game.

Ok, so if Wheeler would have come in the 8th if the Rays were in the lead, who would have closed in your opinion?

this situation is certainly a nightmare. chaote - leftie specialist howell - comes in when behind wheeler - comes in the 8th inning if ahead izzy - not pitching enough, but he is the one who left to close?

Im sorry, I guess my post was confusing. Howell was warming up in the bottom of the 8th the come into the game in the 9th with the Rays down 2-1. Like I said, the Rays did not look like they were going to tie it, or go ahead at that point. I was saying I think it would have been Wheeler warming to come in for the 9th had the Rays been up in the game in the bottom of the 8th.

Ah ok, so in your opinion it looked like Howell was going to pitch because they were down a run, then by the time they pulled ahead he was already warmed up so he was allowed to pitch in the SV situation?
agreed with silver - if you can hold 2 of them on your roster, those are the 2 to hold. if you only have room for one, i'd probably choose wheeler... but hell, good luck.
