Lou loves being able to use Marmol in the 7th/8th role, he's not going to use Marmol to close. Plus it definitely won't change after an outing like tonight's. Haven't we all come to terms with this by now?

it's happened before and it happened again tonight.
Would you prefer Gregg blowing the game in the 8th so that Marmol doesnt even pitch instead?
P.S. Gregg has 8 saves and was great his last 5 outings before screwing this one up.

Qualls is fine? I wouldn't jump to that conclusion - he declared himself available to close tonight, and then even when Pena started allowing runs in the eighth instead of going straight to Qualls they called in a guy who hasn't thrown a single ML inning!
I'd say if anything Qualls's injury is more serious than we're being led to believe.

Fixed.

And Marmol looked great. He didn't hit a batter, he didn't walk two guys, and did not walk in a run.
BTW the 3rd worst OF is not allowed to hit HRs or anything at all?

They are, but it looks a lot worse when you give up homers to terrible OF.
With Gregg sucking and Marmol cemented in the 7-8 spot, what are the odds that the Cubs trade for someone that can close? If not an actual 'closer', maybe someone behind a current closer that has the ability to do it, like Heath Bell last season.

There isn't much of a chance of the Cubs making a deal for a closer unless they don't have to increase their payroll with the move because the sale is getting held up on how much the media outlets purchased are worth right now.

I'm really beginning to doubt Marmol is even worth owning as a MRP anymore.
Edit: his WHIP is actually "only" 1.50 despite walking 23 in 24 IP. His ERA is 3.38 and he has 27 Ks. Thoughts?

I have been surprised that Madden hasnt given Howell a shot to close yet, as he has been arguably the most consistent of all their late inning relief pitchers, even though he is a lefty... anyone think that he will give him a chance in the near future?
