yes. Sherrill must collapse completely (he used to do that), and Ray must find his mojo.(that is the big questionmark)

Agreed. This is the first time we've seen Soriano have to bail Gonzo out of trouble, and it definitely clouds the situation. Knowing Bobby Cox, though, I think Gonzo will have to really fall apart for the current dynamic to change. I'm far less certain about this than I was before game time, though. :)

It will take several more poor outings for Gonzo to lose the job. He has been good lately and just pitched yesterday, against 3 of the toughest RH'ers in the Blue Jays line-up if you remember. He was clearly struggling today and was already at 24 pitches. Soriano was well rested, which is why he came in.

Soriano is pitching better and it makes more sense for him to be the "normal" guy with Gonzo coming in to close when there are lefties due up. It isn't like Soriano is completely unknown as a closer, he has some nice saves this year. The longer Cox waits to make that change the bigger a mistake he is making.

So if you're speculating on the events of the past day or two:

• Has Zeigler officially fallen down the depth chart, as evidenced by his 7th inning entrance?

• Is Izzy the guy to add in the Tampa Bay situation, as evidenced by his warm-up in the first save sitation?

Ziegler had a clean inning. Everyone else gave up a run or more.
And Bailey seems like a two inning releiver.

Id say Izzy

IMO Ziegler is clearly not the closer (at least at the moment). Bailey would have only been in for 1IP and been in line to pitch the 9th if Springer had actually done his job (three base runners allowed without getting an out in the 8th). Plus, even though Bailey gave up a few hits in 2IP, he looked pretty dominant (4Ks). It looks like Bailey is the closer right now. Ziegler in the 7th = Ziegler not the closer.

Everything I've seen/read about the TB situation says the same thing...closer by committee right now with the desire to have Izzy close once they feel he's ready.

Nelson in the game in a tied game in the 8th for the Rays. Seems to me it is Izzy

Another blown save for Lidge. Think Madson gets the call soon?

I cant figure it out it was 2 gb's up the middle. His fastball is still between 93-94. His slider is working fine. Both nights the problem was a guy gets on and they steal 2nd since he takes so long getting home

Lidge did good enough last year to keep getting the save opps. He has blown 4 saves but the way people are talking you'd think he blew 10 already.

His location was poor yesterday. He got ahead of A-Rod on sliders and wanted him to chase a fastball high and away and it caught too much of the plate. Today was more of tough luck as neither ball was hit hard. Of course it would be nice if he could be able to hold runners but hitting his spots with his pitches is a much bigger concern. As long as he's healthy though Manuel has shown that he's going to stick with his guy but you'd have to hope Lidge figures it out soon.
