Peter Gammons told ESPN's Mike & Mike In The Morning on Thursday that the Nationals have discussed swapping Nick Johnson for Boston's Manny Delcarmen.
The Red Sox will probably give David Ortiz a little more time to get his swing figured out before pulling the trigger. If he can't get it turned around, Johnson would make a nice fit. He's batting .338/.435/.473 this season with four home runs and 25 RBI in 148 at-bats. Delcarmen has been lights out, with a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings, but the Red Sox have enough pitching depth in their system to cope with the loss.

Cant see how, if it happened, they wouldnt give Delcarmen a shot at closing

I'd like to think that Affeldt or Howry would be next but roto did write a little while back that Merkin Valdez would be the primary setup man so it's something to monitor if Wilson keeps struggling.
I've seen most every Giants game this year, and Wilson just looks flat out afraid to pitch to lefties. Last night he pussyfooted around both Tony Gwynn Jr (no batting avg yet) and Brian Giles (hitting .161). He really never challenged either guy, throwing mostly backdoor sliders that missed (and to be honest kind of hung).
His ERA last year was rough, and seemed kinda lucky to not blow more saves than he did. I'd say this is definitely a situation worth watching. It would probably be Howry, but someone who has impressed me greatly is Brandon Medders. He's looked fearless when I've seen him and really challenges hitters.
Just curious to get some opinions. Cruz was just a temporary fix, so who knows? But do you really thinks he loses the temporary gig because of blowing up in one non-save situation after he hadn't pitched for a while? Before that he had been doing very well.
being that this is just a short-term solution, there is no reason why Trey Hillman would not play the hot hand.. which as of this moment would be (GULPPPPP) Farnsworth.
Don't forget to pick up Balfour too. You're entire pitching staff is gonna be TB
Plus the other 2 or 3 options
I'm dropping CJ wilson, who I had in all leagues, and possibly Ian Snell types who are borderline. When the situation gets ironed out, i'll drop the ones who arent in the mix.
My guess so far (% odds of them being the chosen closer)
