Aardsma picks up the save but it wasnt great. Pedrioa Hit a ball in the gap that Ichiro tracked down on the run and Bay hit a ball caught against the wall but i guess he got the job done...is this a CBC or Aardsma till he blows it

Judging by tonight, it's Aardsma's job to lose...until he completely blows it.
In other words, its his job for another game or two max.

Is he going to slide back into the closers role?
If he proves he can pitch very effectively, he will definitely get his job back. He doesn't need to outpitch Downs either. He just needs to be effective.
If that makes you feel better go ahead and believe that if you must. He pitched in the 9th because it wasn't a save situation. Downs is still the closer.
I feel that he is correct. If BJ Ryan pitches well, he will be put back in the role they are paying him 10M for. It's a big "if," though.

i don't think that was his issue, his issue is trying to close out games the "jason motte" way.
The funny thing about Motte is he hasn't given a run in 12 straight appearances.
Obviously the 9th inning is a different animal, but I can't help thinking if he didn't get blown up that first day of the season, he may be doing just fine right now as the Cardinal's closer.
His era now sits at 3.38
Agreed

If BJ pitches well the next couple of weeks he'll be back closing games, no matter how Downs is pitchin' IMO.

Does anyone have news on why Percival threw in the 7th inning last night? Has he been taken out of the closer role or just getting an inning in? Who takes over? Wheeler?

What about Isringhausen as a potential closer in Tampa? They got to do something with him by the 19th when his rehab ends. Just a thought.

It looks like they just wanted to get him work.
