I'd keep an eye on Farnsworth as well. I think he may end up with the closers job for the time being.

Farnsworth is putrid and Cruz has been pretty decent. I really don't see him getting the 9th uness Cruz is unavailable that night.

Cruz has been great. 1.88 ERA, 1.15 WHIP....not even close to Farnsworth's 6.10/1.55. Granted, Farnsworth is on a bit of a hot streak (7 IP, 0 ER, 5 hits, 2 BB, 6 K in his last 6 appearances) but there's a reason he's had exactly one 9th inning save opportunity since 2006. He could blow up at any moment and no sane manager trusts him anymore after years of lessons.

Who's more likely to see save opps in Washington, Beimel or Tavarez? I'd imagine the former because the latter entered today's game down 2 in the 7th inning.

yeah i agree, farnsworth isnt pitching very well. sure he put together some scoreless innings but most were in loses or blowouts. cruz is the guy i'd pick up if available. tejeda and wright(not tonight) have also pitched well this year. but i like cruz best here

Cruz is also an actually decent pitcher, which gives him some value even when he doesn't get saves. Farnsworth sucks, so he ONLY has value if he gets the ball in the 9th...

Thanks for quick response. I feel like Cruz may have better stuff but no idea how long Soria out. Downs while not awesome has more job security. Anyone know what exactly achin shoulder is?

Mike Gonzalez just pitched the 8th and now Soriano is now in for the 9th. The announcers said it was because of lefty/righty matchups.

yeah he came in specifically to get howard/ibanez. nothing to see here i suspect.

I agree but according to CBS its Soriano's job to lose. They tend to exagerate a little sometimes.

Is this going to come up everytime Soriano gets a save opp? Nothing has changed. Soriano will get some opps when the matchups dictate it or if he is much fresher than Gonzo. I have Soriano so I wish he was taking over but as things stand he will probably get 2-3 save opps a month IMO.
