Street, who got the save Wednesday, may be poised to regain the Rockies' closer job, the team's official site reports.
Recommendation: Before any such announcement is made, manager Clint Hurdle said, "I'll sleep on some things." In any case, it's worth making a move for Street if he was let go in your league. (Rotowire.com)
Corpas is losing his grip on the closer role, the Denver Post reports.
Recommendation: "I have to do something quick. I don't like this. It makes me mad. I am serious," Corpas said. "I don't want this to happen again." Manager Clint Hurdle has a reputation of a quick hook when it comes to his closers, but the hit that knocked in the game winner was a dribbler past first that first baseman Todd Helton probably should have had. Fortunately for Corpas and fantasy owners, there is no heir apparent waiting in the wings, but one could rise quickly. Huston Street has continued to improve since being removed as the team's closer. After 1 unclean save...no.
It may have technically been "unclean" but Tavarez gave up nothing hit hard. The lone hit he gave up went off the glove of Christian Guzman, so he could have in fact had a 1-2-3 inning. Tavarez has been the best guy in the bullpen by far for the Nats this year, and he gave absolutely no reason for him to not get the next save opportunity. To me that makes him the closer. I'm not saying he lasts longer than his next blown save, but he was speculated to get the job, he got the save opp, and he converted with no trouble at all. He is the closer for now IMHO.
