Joel Hanrahan will remain the Nationals closer for now, according to manager Manny Acta.
Hanrahan has blown his last two saves and simply hasn't pitched well this season, as his zero saves, 9.00 ERA and 1.60 WHIP through five innings attest to. Acta will stick with Hanrahan for now, but after a huge shakeup in the bullpen Monday, the closer is likely on a very short leash. Potential replacements are Joe Beimel, a decent setup man or Garrett Mock, who's been developing as a closer in the minors mlb.com

This should be interesting because as I write this the Nationals currently have a 3-2 lead in the 8th inning. It'll be interesting to who comes out if they can hold the lead, how that pitcher looks, and what the outcome will be.

Seems like Mock might have caught an unlucky break. He came in and faced one batter to end the 8th (WAS with a 3-2 lead) and then might have been left out there for the 9th, but WAS rallied and loaded the bases forcing the team to pinch-hit for Mock in the bottom of the 8th. Of course Hanrahan then came in a locked down the save.

I wasn't watching on TV (just stat tracker) - did the announcers say that Mock might've come out for the 9th? Is this just wishful thinking on my part?

I think the only reason Mock was even in there was because of the delay. Beimel came in and got 2 outs on 5 pitches and then the game went into a delay. You have to think that if they said Hanrahan is still the closer, it was setting up to be Beimel in the 8th, Hanrahan in the 9th.

Agree.. It looks like Hanrahan is getting one last heave-ho at it.. And he passed the test so far.

If Mock was the closer, we would of seen Hanrahan in the 8th.

Yea Mock got unlucky there. Guess who was pitching when that happened, Rafael Soriano. I think Gonzo has a longer leash than most think. Bobby Cox will stick with him.

So is Mock worth holding onto (in your typical save hungry roto league) or are his chances of closing slim? What do they plan on doing with Bergmann and isn't Beimal a lefty specialist with no closing experience?

yeah, and you know, I don't know what's more annoying; sifting through the game commentary posts, or sifting through the complaints.

I feel like a lot of the "game commentary" thread is actually, at least marginally, somewhat interesting, if not valuable. The complaints on the other hand are just that, complaints.

That's enough complaining from me, carry on.

There's a place specifically for that, you know.
