The Nats optioned Rivera to Triple-A Syracuse following Sunday's loss to the Marlins, a game in which Rivera was asked to close with a one-run lead and instead gave up four runs on two hits and three walks, the Associated Press reports.
Recommendation: Rivera truly was awful, two days in a row, but he's also being used as a scapegoat for an overall team collapse to start the season. "The incompetence of the bullpen was drawn to a head today," said assistant general manager Mike Rizzo.

Beimel is the only guy that's been any good. Are there any prospects that they might bring up that would have a shot at closing?

Mock, who was closing for Triple-A Syracuse, could be asked to perform in that role with the big club. Analysis: Mock may get a chance to close at the big league level as Joel Hanrahan blew two saves against the Marlins this past weekend and Saul Rivera was demoted after blowing a save on Sunday. Joe Beimel may get some looks as the closer as well, but Mock has more upside. Still, it's hard to have faith in any Nationals reliever at this point.
Be excellent to each other.

They are all pretty lackluster unless they move someone from starting to relieving. Rivera got the 1st shot, as I listed, and now we're back to square one. Shell is doesn't have closer stuff but he gets outs. Beimel and Ledezma are both lefties and even though Beimel has been their best reliever, there was a reason why he took awhile to get a job. Mock and Ledezma are likely the 2 with the most upside. Tavarez is the vet of the group but he'll likely get shelled but could get a shot. Cabrera could be an option out of the rotation, maybe even Balestar. Still, this is a very volatile situation. Stay away until the dust settles.

people come to this to get their closer info. If a guy ask why paps did not pitch and was wondering why that is exactley what this site is for. You told him to go somewhere else and look...what is the point on this thread if we we are supposed to go else where to figure this out.

Are you serious dude?.....figure it out.
First off all get it right, it was somebody else who told him to just go look it up himself.
Second, it's just as easy to click on the box score as it is to write a question and wait for the response.
So go look it up so there instead of needless clutter in the thread.

There's a reason they ask for no game commentary. I didn't make the rules up.

Pay attention now.

Useful.....

Jason Bergmann, Garrett Mock recalled. Saul Rivera optioned to Syracuse. Steven Shell, Wil Ledezma designated for assignment.

For those looking at Mock, guy's got an ERA of 17 in 3.2IPs w/ 5BBs, 2Ks, and 2SVs.
I'd rather speculate on Bergmann who has the better line of 3ERA, 6IPs, 0BBs, 5Ks, 1SV.

IMO, the job is still hanrahans

About Washington, Hanrahan never actually lost the job right? In fact, didn't he get the "vote of confidence" yesterday? Hanrahan's still no. 1 IMO; these "changes" are about figuring out who's behind him (not that I think hanrahan's leash is very long anymore.....)

and boot Masterson since he is no longer "destined for" but instead "is in" the rotation. Saito hasn't been good at all even though he got the call yesterday.

Is it just me or does Gonzalez deserve to be on the hot seat?
