Motte is probably headed for long relief or even AAA. His confidence is kinda beside the point.
So what he blew a save the other day. Was he really given a chance to close? You would think his spring stats would carry more weight that one blown save and 2 hits.
I would think that the fact that the one-pitch approach isn't a recipe for success in the MLB carries more weight than no-pressure stats against minor leaguers and non-roster invitees.
Rocinante2: you know Rocinante2: its easy to dismiss the orioles as a bad team ofanrex: go on Rocinante2: i'm done Rocinante2: lmao
Excellent - It's a good thing I used the smiley to indicate I was joking
Besides, we have your guarantee on Nunez to guide the way
I can think Calero might get a shot at it, Marlins have used a veteran on a short deal in that role before and pumped up his value by letting him close (bringing more in trade OR free agent pickups). Does Calero fit that? Yes, he does.
Have many people been wrong on the Marlins closer before in the past few yeas? Why, yes..yes they have. People were prematurely picking Lindstrom for a while in fact. I own Nunez in more leagues that Calero (2 to 0) but I still think he could get a shot is all.

The Taylor Tankersly era never really got started.

Nunez
I almost have the feeling that the Marlins might put Lindstrom on the DL. Yes, Nunez would take over initially but I don't think he has the chops to hold onto it. I think Kensing would be the guy long-term there unless someone emerges from the minors.
Lets see...he's never closed in the majors before, he's a rookie, he's only had 11 IP in the majors, has only 1 MLB worthy pitch (albeit a high 90's fastball), most people believe that Perez is more talented, LaRussa could easily go with the vet Franklin, St. Louis has yet to announce a closer yet, final roster moves haven't been announced, spring training isn't over, and the season has yet to begin.
