Depends if you think Scioscia can get away from the traditional closer mentality. A lot of managers just like the easy option.
Fuentes looked pretty limp-wristed this afternoon. A couple more outings like that and there could be some Fuentes hysteria on here.
Wouldn't get worried about this at all. Last night he should've been out of the game with no runs twice. But because he let up a swinging bunt that he and Napoli couldn't communicate on, and Gary Matthews Jr. is playing out the string and not playing hard, he blew the save. Not a big deal, he looked fine last night.
I disagree.
After he got unlucky (Suzuki's hit was hilarious) he threw a couple of delicious "hit me" pitches that could have gone a lot further.
And actually Cust's out before that was
just mistimed or that would have been a HR.

TLR probably playing match-up as Pits has McLouth (L)/Doumit (S)/Hinske (L) in the 9th.
Glad he was able to save that gem that carpenter threw today. So it's closer by committe in St louis.

I watched the game. Reyes was in there because of the 3 lefties.
Still, he will be added like 20000 times, only to see that he wont get another save

Can anyone with knowledge of the STL situation speculate on Franklin's viability as a closer? If he couldn't get a crack at it today despite Motte looking bad, Perez being sent down, and despite getting 17 SVs last season... does TLR just not have faith in him as a closer?

That would have been crazy to let Motte face all those same lefties.

This is why I love this site. Thanks for the "inside" info on this own. Sucks Motte didn't get the chance, but better that he sits against a bunch of lefties instead of blowing another save.
