Help picking last Keeper

Postby jablea876 » Thu Feb 12, 2009 8:36 pm

I've made a few trades this offseason to upgrade my keeper situation including a phenomenal trade where I sent Longoria for Lincecum/BJ Upton. I need help picking the last Keeper from the roster below. So far I'm keeping Reyes, Kinsler, Upton, McCann, Rios, Lincecum, Billingsley, & Gallardo. Should I keep:

Stewart (upside)
Hawpe (obvious lack of power in my lineup)
Fuentes (though saves can always be had through ww)
Maybin
Gamel
or someone I'm not even thinking about.

20 Team Roto - 14x14 (Hitters - balanced between speed, power, & production; Pitchers - value at middle reliever added)

McCann
Kinsler
Stewart
Reyes
BJ Upton
Rios
Hawpe
JD Drew
Jacobs
G. Anderson
Maybin
Gamel
Hafner
Dewitt

Lincecum
Billingsley
Gallardo
Marcum
Smoltz
Bailey
Duch
Maddox
Escobar
Fuentes

As always, thanks for your help...

i would keep hawpe for the obvious power boost. I would never keep a closer, saves are too cheap to both using a keeper spot. I don't think Maybin will get up full time this year, but i'd through him back and keep an eye out just in case. Probably a good keeper choice for next year. Great trade with longoria by the way....lincy is a beast

I would probably keep Hawpe or Fuentes. If I had to pick I would go with Hawpe since you need some power.

please help

Fuentes. Keeping 9, you got room for a closer. Hawpe doesn't hit lefties well, and his xBA is lower then his real ba.

Hmm, try packaging Rios and Stewart for a 3b upgrade.

If your unable to do any trades, I'd go with Hawpe I guess.

It comes down between Hawpe and Fuentes, but if you do not keep Fuentes you will start the year punting saves and in a 20 team league thats tough. Sure you may be able to pluck a closer off of FA but again in a 20 team league everyone else will be vying for that same player. I would rather have Hawpe but believe you should keep Valverde for the reason I stated.
I have experience playing in a 20 team league so I am well aware of how things shake out, but this is just one owners opinion.

Good Luck.

Nice team for such a deep league.

Thank you everyone. I greatly appreciate the responses. I think I like the Rios/Stewart trade idea. Otherwise Fuentes is probably the pick...

go after longoria chipper or aramis. then with the free spot you'd be able to keep fuentes and have abetter set of keepers and no worry.

I like to have power in the lineup as it adds to multiple categories. HR, RBI, Runs. So I would grab Hawpe.
