ESPN Draft

Postby jeff7602 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 6:01 pm

Does ESPN do a snake draft? In other words, in a 10 team league does the person with the 1st pick also get the 11th, or the 20th. I don't see a place where you can choose.

I believe the default is set to a snake draft (1st and 20th). If I remember correctly there was an option at least in years past for what kind of draft you had but they might have changed that this year.

Yes, ESPN is snake by default and I don't think you can change it, other than enabling draft pick trading and then manually trading every draft pick to get the order you want, which is rather tedious and annoying, but feasible if you really DON'T want a snake draft.

I just know that 2 years ago we did espn (last year we went with cbs) and it was an auto draft but it didn't start snaking until like the 6th or 7th round. I got the last pick...which made winning a lot harder. The commish didn't realize that it wasn't going to snake until after the draft and he said "oh well" so I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't happen to me again...although we do the draft live now, which makes a world of difference.

That most likely happened because your commish set it as a keeper league for THAT season, because ESPN runs the keeper rounds in a straight/non-snake format. The same thing happened in another league I was in and we wound up have to cancel and reschedule the draft... not fun.

Yeah, he did set it up as a keeper league, but we didn't end up making it a keeper. So that explains it. I ended up winning the league from the bottom spot in the draft anyway, which just goes to show that it doesn't matter as much where you draft, just as long as you're prepared and draft smart.
