Phillips or Uggla??

Postby oldmanbean » Mon Feb 09, 2009 8:03 pm

I am trying to swap my draft pick (#2) for Brandon Phillips, ($8) and if I get him, would drop Uggla ($17). $9 goes a long way in a $200 payroll. He also has Joey Votto ($5), in which case I would keep Uggla. Are either/both of these good moves, and which one yould you prefer??

Thanks,

Glenn

who is available with the #2 pick? that goes a long way into deciding what move to make...but based on value, I'd rather have phillips at 8 and save the 9

phillips and votto are both much better value than uggla, but as the last guy said, it really depends on what kind of player you'd be giving up by trading your 2nd round pick.

No, not 2nd round pick. I guess I was not clear. I have the second pick in EACH round of the draft, and I would be trading down to the 6th pick.
Does that make a difference??

The reason I ask is because you said that you would have to trade you #2 (I assume overall) pick in order to get Phillips. If there are high quality players still available then I wouldnt make the trade and just keep Uggla, but if the talent pool is diluted then you should definitely consider making the deal...

No, I have the 2nd pick in each round, and I normally do not draft until the 4th round anyway unless there are studs available. With my current budget ($124, based on my keepers), if I picked in the 1st round, my next pick would not be until round 8! We do not do roster cutdown until March 1st, so there is no way of knowing who else might be available. Best free agent at this time at 2nd is Alexei Ramirez.

Also, the 4th round pick costs $17, so I would not pick a 2B until later anyway if I had to, otherwise I would keep Uggla.
