Which Free Agents should I pursue?

Postby gore51 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:54 am

Hey guys. I am in a 30 team simulation baseball keeper league. 50 man roster (25 active-25 reserve).

With a roster of viewtopic.php?t=366767

and 40 million dollars to spend in free agency, which of the following players should I go after (and if you want, what sort of contracts should I offer).

1. Chris Young (SD - P)
2. Nelson Cruz (TEX - OF)
3. Alexei Ramirex (CHW - 2B/SS)
4. Clint Barmes (COL - 2B/SS)
5. Randy Johnson (SFG - P)
6. Jeremy Affeldt (SFG - P)
7. Chris Dickerson (CIN - OF)
8. John Smoltz (BOS - P)
9. Jamie Moyer (PHI - P)
10. Ted Lilly (CHC - P)
11. Brad Penny (BOS - P)
12. Ryan Theriot (CHC - 2B/SS)
13. Rickie Weeks (2B - MIL)
14. Bobby Crosby (SS - OAK)
15. Ben Zobrist (SS - TBR)
16. Chone Figgins (3B - LAA)
17. Pedro Feliz (3B - PHI)
18. J.D. Drew (OF - BOS)
19. Kosuke Fukadome (OF - CHC)
20. Hideki Matsui (OF - NYY)
21. Matt Murton (OF - OAK)
22. Randy Winn (OF - SFG)
23. Boof Bonser (P - MIN)
24. Pedro Martinez (P - NYM)
25. Akinora Otsuka (P - TEX)
26. Hideki Okajima (P - BOS)
27. Rafael Soriano (P - ATL)

My needs are SP, 1-2 MI, and 1-2 OF. What would you recommend?

Depends on how much money you're looking to spend. I agree with you on the areas you need to address. Here are the guys I'd target at your areas.

SP: C. Young, B. Penny, T. Lilly
MI: A. Ramirez, R. Weeks, R. Theriot, C. Barmes
OF: N. Cruz, C. Dickerson, M. Murton

Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
