You do need a SP and an Ace would help a lot. I wouldn't give up too much because it is amazing how much SP you can find during the season. But I would see what it would take to get Webb or Santana. Personally I would stay away from CC and other SP that have a higher potential for break down.

no....

why would you deal Holliday for a pitcher, hold onto him, find a pitcher thru waivers or trade something else.

I agree that you can always find great pitching during the season. But you really do need an ace.

Last year, mid season, I traded Beckett to get Holliday and a draft pick. Even with Holliday in OAK, I still would rather have him over Beckett. Holliday was heating up faster than a microwave as last season was ending. But if you could get Lincecum, he and Johan are about the only pitchers I think are worthy of a straight-up for Holliday.

With an excess of OF talent, I'd work more on trying to move Markakis. His pre-season numbers just seem a bit inflated for playing in Baltimore. Batting anywhere in that lineup.

Though I would never take those pitchers before Markakis in the draft, I don't think you'll be able to get anything more than Webb/Peavy for him at his current perceived value.

If you can get Webb for Markakis then I would do it. I actually doubt the guy will trade Webb for Markakis just because Webb is one of the best SP out there. If you can get another player in the deal with Holliday and Webb then I would go that route. I would first look at the other teams rosters and see who needs and OF and who has a top 5 SP. Then I would send an email out to those owners and see what comes back.
