Rank these 4 SPs -- WHIR

Postby auclairkeithbc » Sun Feb 08, 2009 6:12 pm

How would you rank these 4 SPs in 5X5. They would be under contract and I could not drop them for at least 3 years. It is a deep dynasty league (28 teams). Wins/Ks/ERA/WHIP all equally important to me.

Kenshin Kawakami (age 33/34 in 2009)
Koji Uehara (age 34 in 2009)
Jon Garland (age 29 in 2009)
Jeremy Bonderman (age 26 in 2009)

Any comment will be appreciated. Also, leave a link and I'll help you out with one.

Thanks,
Keith

That's a crazy mix...

I'd probably rank them

Kawakami - Most likely will be starting and can probably put up decent #s for at least a season until batters get used to him
Garland - Not a great option but will probably get some wins and a few extra Ks for the NL switch. Would rank lower on the list but he's at least healthy. The 2 below would be higher but are much bigger health risks
Bonderman - Like his stuff, but injury concerns are too much for me to rank higher
Uehara - I think he's bounced back and forth with relief and starting so I'd be concerned about health issues if he starts. If he is in the running for saves, then he'd be higher. Seems to be pretty similar to Kawakami as far as stats go but recent role changes and IP fluctuations have me more concerned.

Help me out in my NL Only trade post here ;-)

I don't think I'd take any of those guys if I couldn't drop 'em for 3 yrs.

well that is just the way it works in our league. i don't want to get into the details, but if i go with none of them, i will be in a much worse situation than if i got any one of them. so i would gladly take all 4 of them, and lock them up relatively cheap, if i could afford to. but since i can't afford to, i maybe only be able to keep 1 or 2 of them.

so if you are having trouble with saying you'd want any of them for the next three years, pretend you could have them for the next 3 years at a price you'd consider good. if that means you'd pay 50 cents in a 260 dollar league, for the best of them for the next three years, fine. if it means 25 cents, fine.

trust me, all of those guys are worth owning. do your best ranking them if you can.

Garland
Bonderman
Kawakami
Uehara

-Like the W's from Garland although the K's are fairly low for a starter.

Bonderman the easy choice. He is a decent K guy. I wouldn't touch both older, unknown Japanese players.

Thanks for helping on mine....

I'd go with Bonderman, then Garland, then flip a coin on the other two guys. I don't trust any of the Japanese transplants until I see them do it.
