Which 5 keepers from this inherited team? WHIR

Postby ScottishBaseballFan » Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:32 pm

I took over this team in a 14 team Roto 6x6 keeper league. I need to select 5 keepers.

Apart from Braun I'm struggling. My current thoughts are Braun, v Mart, Pence, Figgins and Santana

Yep, struggling

Braun ;-D
Pence ;-D
E.Santana ;-D
Vmart - I wouldn't normally keep a catcher, but you need to get lucky, Vmart could just be it ;-)
Scherzer - don't think I keep him either, but I think you need another big payoff to compete :-?

Keep Scherzer over Figgins. Agree with the rest.

I agree on all parts here. You really need a good draft. :-D

Last four cuts were: Max Scherzer, who was just simply a tough cut, Delmon Young, who looks like a complete bust of a prospect, Jon Lester, who I think has already reached his peak, and James Loney, who would be easy to redraft as a lower tiered 1B.

Braun
Martinez
Pence
Ludwick
Santana

Everyone else on the roster will be available later in the draft, these are definitely your most valuable players, IMO. Sure Max has the makeup to be a terrific talent but you can select him later if you like.

You could probably get a better 1B in the draft but i do like Loney in a keeper, I think hes gonna have a great year this year in that potent lineup!

But the list of 5/6 for me are:
Braun
Santana
Pence
V-Mart
Loney/Scherzer

Braun, Santana, Pence, VMart, Scherzer...
i'd take a shot on scherzer because he is so young and has tons of upside potential
He could be an immediate ace because his stuff is so good

Help me out in my NL Only trade post here ;-)

scherzer? no, i can't do that. prospect pitchers come and go. who knows what he'll be? love the k rate, but it's just not worth the risk. if i'm gonna take a risk, i'll take it on a young hitter. figgins is a speedster and he's not young. i can't keep him. i like keeping vmart. it's a risk, but for a catcher who could be among the top few, he's worth it. delmon is the one most won't agree with, but the upside is still there, lurking. with these keepers, you need to have someone to get irrationally excited about. it's not like you're throwing anything great back. i think you should give him another year or two.
