Which 5 hitters / 2 pitchers to keep?

Postby viewer-x » Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:27 pm

Time to select keepers. It's a 12 team H2H points league with normal roster settings except for the part where we have 1 CF and 2 OF instead of the normal 3 OF.
I hope some of can help me a bit.

We have to keep 3 Batters and 2 Pitchers and we have to give up the pick where the player was drafted. But only players drafted after round 4 and FA pickups get last round (24th Rd.) value. And if 2 or more players have te same value one of them has to get the next higher free round value.

Scoring:

Batting
Total Bases 1
Walks 1
Hit by Pitch 1
Runs Scored 1
Runs Batted In 1
Stolen Bases 2
Caught Stealing -1
Ground into Double Plays -1
Outfield Assists 5
Errors -1
Double Plays Turned 1

Pitching
Appearances 2
Innings Pitched 3
Hits Allowed -1
Walks Issued -1
Hit Batsmen -1
Earned Runs -2
Strikeouts 1
Wild Pitches -1
Balks -1
Wins 7
Saves 5
Blown Saves -3
Holds 3
Complete Games 10
Quality Starts 5

I added the points each player scored in 2008 and the pick I'd have to give up for him.

Troy Tulowitzki, Col SS 327 Points - 5th Rd.
Corey Hart, Mil CF, RF 539 Points - 7th Rd.
Adrian Beltre, Sea 3B 473 Points - 9th Rd.
Chris Young, Ari CF 547 Points - 9th Rd.
Ramon Hernandez, Cin C 329 Points - 18th Rd.
Joey Votto, Cin 1B 590 Points - 19th Rd.
Conor Jackson, Ari 1B, LF 530 Points - 20th Rd.

Felix Hernandez, Sea SP 568 Points - 8th Rd.
Jose Valverde, Hou RP 542 Points - 10th Rd.
Brett Myers, Phi SP 496 Points - 11th Rd.
Adam Wainwright, StL SP, RP 418 Points - 12th Rd.
Ben Sheets, Mil SP 673 Points - 14th Rd.
Joakim Soria, KC RP 519 Points - 16th Rd.
Oliver Perez, NYM SP 510 Points - 17th Rd.
Barry Zito, SF SP 368 Points - 23rd Rd.
Edinson Volquez, Cin SP 654 Points - 24th Rd.
Justin Duchscherer, Oak RP 489 Points - 24th Rd.
Jeremy Sowers, Cle SP 197 Points - 24th Rd.
Chris Carpenter, StL SP 35 Points - 24th Rd.
Manny Parra, Mil RP 390 Points - 24th Rd.
Chris Perez, StL RP 220 Points - 24th Rd.

Who would be your 3 batters and the 2 pitchers?

Thanks in advance.

Chris Young, Ari CF 547 Points - 9th Rd. ;-D

Conor Jackson, Ari 1B, LF 530 Points - 20th Rd. ;-D
I think your hitters are pretty straight forward as to who I would keep.

Joakim Soria, KC RP 519 Points - 16th Rd. ;-D
Edinson Volquez, Cin SP 654 Points - 24th Rd. ;-D
I am torn here as I could easily see myself keeping King Felix over Soria but that 16th round for Soria is sweet

Votto- This guy is a stud and he is also a youngster. In the next couple years all he is going to do is get better. This pick is one that could change your keeper career. He has massive potential and you will definently get up to 600-700 points this year with votto.

Chris Young- This superb outfielder can hit as well as field. If your league has fielding stats then this is the guy. Even though you will give up a 9th round pick, he is definently worth it.

Conor Jackson- He can play 2 positions and when he is on his game expect an average of up to .350.

Volquez- This guy is the reason the reds are going to make the playoffs this year. His strikeout totals will be similar to the ones like hamels and kazmir. Even thought his post all star break wasnt so good we also saw glimpses of natural young talent. This kid can pitch. And you dont lose a good round.

Hernendez- Always go with the young pitchers in a keeper league. There are no downside to them beside there inexperience in the league. This pitcher is really similar to volquez. He can throw some heat.

Cory Hart was a 5th round selection last year so I believe a 7th rounder is good value here. As far as pitching goes I would like to keep Felix but the 8th round is average value at best. I am not a fan of keeping closers (matter afact I dont). The fact the quality starts are worth nice points I will go with Wainwright over Felix, better value.
