Time to trim the rosters .... need some help here

Postby oldmanbean » Sat Feb 07, 2009 2:39 pm

12 team keeper league, we may keep between 8 and 12 players, lower cap $85, upper cap $130. 25 rounds in the draft, dollar values below.
I had the #9 pick, traded Volstad for the #2 pick conditional on my getting a C, 1b or 3b. Have offers for Soto, DeRosa and Huff.

My first attempt at keepers is:

Lee, Shields, Scherzer, McCann, Uggla, Drew, Bruce, McClouth, Hamilton, and Markakis This totals $129 and does nto allow me a pick until the 3rd round.

I am considering leaving McCann or Uggla unprotected, but would they last?? Also, will Pena still be around, or?

All help is appreciated, will help in return

Thanks,

Glenn

C: McCann $17, Towles $10
1B: Pena $14, Butler $8

There's only so much I can see, but I like your keeper set. I would probably just stand pat. If anything, I would try and trade Cliff Lee and McClouth, they are 1-year wonders to me.

Well, Lee would be a good pitcher to dangle, but I still think he will have a good year. McClouth did slump some the 2nd half, and I think it was due to the trades Pittsburgh made. Will they reinforce the lineup this year?? If so, he might be back. Would you feel comfortable having Bruce be your 3rd OF??

thanks for the reply!

I think the keepers you listed are the best way to go. The prices on Uggla and McCann are definitely good enough to warrant keeping them.

I am trying to trade for either Martin or Soto, which would drop my salaries down $8-10. Only 2B with a low value in our league is Pedroia, and he is off-limits I'm afraid.

Only problem with my keepers is that I have no 1B, and I have a feeling Pena will go early.

thanks,

Glenn

Pena is quite replaceable imo. an adam laroche/mike jacobs type player isnt all that different and can be had much later.

Both of those scored at least 100 points less than Pena, not an amount to be trifled. I am lookig at Chris Davis to draft, not sure how long he will be available especially if he makes extra noise this spring.
