[quote="METS 24"]I'm in a non-keeper AL only league & the pitching categories are different than other leagues. ERA isn't even one of the categories! That said, who do you think are the top 5 starting pitchers out of the 14 that I listed below? Remember, they are just being judged on WINS, STRIKEOUTS, & WHIP. I put the starting pitchers names in alphabetical order so the order they are in wouldn't influence anyone. WHIR! WHIR! WHIR! WHIR!
A.J. Burnett ] ; As long as he stays healthy 20W a possibility[/b] John Danks Gavin Floyd Matt Garza Zack Greinke Its taken this ace a little time to develop, but if his second half is any indication I will waive that fact he plays on KC Felix Hernandez Whip and bad team hampers selection Scott Kazmir Whip and the fact he cant get go deep into games hampers him. John Lackey The second safest pick Jon Lester High risk/High reward? Daisuke Matsuzaka I have a bad feeling here, Injury? otherwise a may have selected him Ervin Santana Is last year the real deal? Joe Saunders James Shields The safest pick here, IMO Justin Verlander I really want to pick him
How do you like me fancy handywork.

A.J. Burnett John Danks Gavin Floyd Matt Garza Zack Greinke Felix Hernandez Scott Kazmir John Lackey Jon Lester Daisuke Matsuzaka Ervin Santana Joe Saunders James Shields Justin Verlander
John Lackey AJ Burnett Felix Hernandez Ervin Santana Scott Kazmir James Shields Justin Verlander Zack Grienke
Fun list. Taking out ERA makes a huge difference, but it also makes wins that much more valuable. For that reason I have Lackey number 1. He has the best chance of getting to 15+ wins due to a better health record and a consistent effort. Burnett is the wild card and the K monster. ERA and injuries are his weakness, you are eliminating ERA......Felix would be above Burnett if ERA was considered, but without it, I dropped him down because his WHIP will be higher than AJ/Lackey without the wins to bump him up. Ervin at 4 is a hard one to predict, but he has the potential to be the best....Shields at 5 because he is a work horse....you can't go wrong with him. If you want consistency, go with him at no. 2.
Shields - Clean bill of health and a nice team behind him will net him a nice amount of wins while he posts a fine WHIP with a decent number of K's. E. Santana - Last year wasn't an anomaly, I believe he's on the rise. Again no real injury bug to worry about here so you have to believe he's getting a nice amount of wins with good K's and WHIP. Kazmir - We all know he's talented just have to hope he fully cashes in and stays healthy. His WHIP isn't the greatest but his K's make up for it. Burnett - See Kazmir. Lackey - All around solid pitcher.
Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
