Which Keeper to Drop?

Postby lalyle23 » Thu Feb 05, 2009 8:38 pm

I'm in a 6 player keeper league. Below are 7 of the 6 I have it narrowed down to.

Santana...definite keeper
M Holliday...ditto
Russell Martin...top 2-3 at his position
F Rodriquez.....ditto
Alexie Ramirez...Cuban defector entering his 2nd season...future star in friendly park?
Shane Victorio ... Speedy OF in powerful lineup
Jacob Ellsbury....ditto but could share playing time

There are 14 teams in a 5x5 H2H leugue

Appreciate any feed back

I've never been a Victorino fan via fantasy. I know the rule is not to pay for saves but I think I'd rather have K-Rod than Vic. Just don't think that K-Rod is going to have 60 saves again because that's not going to happen.

I agree. I would let Vic go. My general rule is keep the player you are less likely to get back in the draft. And I really doubt that someone will take Vic over KRod in a 14 team league. Closers are harder to come by in that deep of a league.

I was debating if I kept K-Rod if Victorino would have more value over Ellsbury because of Boston possibly platooning him. Or keep the two speedsters and rack up the steals over the potential Saves from K-Rod.

I think you drop Victorino. Normally i'd say K-Rod but you don't really need 2 high speed low power OF and i'd rather have Ellsbury over Victorino.

Look at this from a strategic standpoint:

According to Mock Draft Central you have ADPs of:
53 for Victorino
58 for Ellsbury
72 for Rodriguez

You say you keep 6 keepers in your league - that will be 84 players off the board. With closers treated like kryptonite in most keeper leagues and teams, it's entirely possible you could pick him back up in the draft. If not, I'm sure a player like Soria, Nathan, Rivera could be available.

If you toss Ellsbury or Victorino back into the draft pool, they are almost assured to be picked up immediately.

Of course, you'll want to shore up power hitting to go along with Holliday. I would probably get one more power hitter before you go after a closer. You could always get a second tier guy and be just fine in saves.
