Is Vlad done? Are my moves gonna haunt me?

Postby RandyThe KidMartinez » Thu Feb 05, 2009 6:34 pm

15 Team Keeper League
5 Keepers
5x5 Roto
14th pick in the draft (snake draft)

Potential Keepers

Aramis Ramirez
Matt Holliday
Roy Halladay
David Price (I know, but I'm in love with him)
Brandon Phillips

Vlad Guerrero?
Justin Upton?
Alex Gordon?
Furcal?
Tulo?

Recent Moves

Traded
Webb and Pedroia for Phillips and Holliday
Alexei Ramirez for Tulo and Russell Martin
Martin and 13th Round Pick (194) for 5th round pick. (73)

Trying to get a 3rd rounder for Vlad? Should I drop Price and Keep Vlad?
Should I package Halladay/Vlad for another? I would love a 1st baseman.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Each of those trades were solid. I love the side you received in the first one. The second deal was solid too, although you basically just have picks to show for it now. But that's not a bad thing. Picks are important, especially in a 15 teamer.

As for your squad, I would try to shop Holliday and Vlad aggressively, although few teams would be willing to trade their superstar. A 1B would be nice, but you'll have to take specific teams' keepers into mind. Try to find teams with a weak 5th keeper, and try to send both guys for an upgrade (maybe MCab or Braun if you're lucky). A third rounder for Vlad would be a solid option in my book.

As for your keepers, assuming no successful trade:
1. Matt Holliday
2. Aramis Ramirez
3. Brandon Phillips
4. Roy Halladay
---------------------------------------------------
These four are a given, the problem for me is the fifth spot. I hate not keeping Vlad, but I hate tossing back either Upton or Price. I love the potential of Upton just as much as you love the potential of Price, so I am partial to him. I would keep Upton. But I understand the Price selection as well.

That still leaves two very talented players on your squad. Not to mention someone may still love Tulo. Your best option is to contact all sorts of teams with weak keepers and hope for an upgrade.

When in doubt you should keep the guy you're less likely to be able to redraft. For you that's Vlad, there's no way he'll be there for you at your pick while i think it's very likely Price will be. I think Vlad is still good for another couple of years but there's no problem with shopping him around. The only problem is he did have a down year so i don't think you get fair value for him.

I'd still keep Vlad. In a keep 5, you can still get Price back in the draft.

As far as Vlad being done goes, I don't think so. Injuries had sullied his timing over the past couple of seasons, but he's still a solid bet for a .300 BA, 25-30 HR, 100 RBI year. Also, Vlad could be playing DH a bit more often to lessen the wear and tear a bit.

Thanks People,

I'm working on a bid to get Miguel Cabrera (Halladay/Vlad). Hope for the best.
