UPDATE: Trade offer has changed! Will this matter? WHIR

Postby mktgteach » Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:35 pm

Hi,

I am in a 16 team Dynasty League. I have just been offered this trade:

I am offered Miguel Cabrera and this week's #5 FA pick in return for Carlos Zambrano and Derrek Lee.

UPDATE!!! The new offer is Miguel Cabrera and a 5th and 8th free agent pick (which isn't much value as this is a 5 year old Dynasty League and all of the elite talent is already on a team) FOR Derek Lee, Carlos Zambrano, and Troy Glaus.

With the picks I could get a MLB player like Mark Teahen and/or a prospect like Jerremy Jeffress. Just giving you the type of players available in the free agent pool.

My team:
C- Mauer
1b- Fielder
2b- Roberts
3b- Zimmerman
SS- Reyes
MI- Rollins
CI- D. Lee
LF- Manny
CF- Sizemore
RF- Markakis
Util- Hafner

SP- Sabathia
SP- Verlander
SP- Kazmir
SP- Zambrano
SP- Bedard
RP- Rivera
RP- Wood

Bench Bats: Milledge, Glaus, Weiters, Carlos Santana
Bench Arms: Lowe, Gallardo, Lannan, Pedro, Ballester, B. McCarthy, Tillman, Porcello, Arrieta, Matusz, A. Miller

Will losing Zambrano hurt me for winning this year? Injuries have really hurt me in the past and with Bedard and Gallardo both coming off of injuries I am weary of not having enough QUALITY SP depth. Lowe is serviceable and Lannan/Ballester are ok in spurts.

Why should I DO THE TRADE or WHY SHOULD I NOT DO THE TRADE? WHIR!

"Why should I DO THE TRADE or WHY SHOULD I NOT DO THE TRADE? WHIR![b]"

Make the trade 'cause.....................................................................................

Zambrano' s K's have gone down a bunch the last 3 yrs. '06 - 210 / '07 - 177 / '08 - 130 he is clearly losing it, and should be easily replaced

DLee is stuck on 20 HRs and ain't getting any younger

What is a #5 FA pick? If it means you can get some good pitching depth (or at least a hot rookie/prospect) off of the wire then that's nice enough.

Losing Zambrano, no matter how much his abilities are in flux, is worrisome. One could even say that your offense is powerful enough that you don't need to make this trade. Lee's stats aren't spectacular but compared to Cabrera's they're somewhat comparable aside from about 15 homers and some runs/rbis.

If you really need those 15 homers, or if that #5 pick is crucial, then make the trade. Otherwise... I think it's a bit risky on your part.

In a dynasty league MCab for D Lee is great. MCab is young with many years of production ahead of him. Lee is old and his best days are behind him. Losing Zambo from your pitchig staff will hurt a bit. Even with Z's numbers dropping he is one of your better pitchers. If you make the trade (I would) make sure to focus on getting good young pitchers added to your team. Take some chances on some young arms and older pitchers like Pedro are expendable.

I like this deal a lot. You are getting 1st round talent for a bargain price. It might hurt your SP a little but Zambrano is out producing his numbers so this is a nice deal before he heads south. I think you have some nice SP that should be able to take his place easily.

Are you kiding. Do you really have to ask that question.

Miguel Cabrera is clearly a 1st rounder in any format and will be for many years and the Dynasty value of Carlos Zambrano and Derrek Lee is extreamly questionable and is not going to get any better.

There is no question about it. You are robbing a Stupid Cubs fan. So don't worry want it does to your pitching and Take it and then Hope the other 14 owners in your league don't get pessed off.

Accept as fast you can. Losing Zambrano is nothing compared to upgrading from Lee to Miggy.

I would definitely take this deal. The upgrade from Lee to MCab is great and Big Z is on the decline. Do it.

Ok, the trade has changed. I am not sure if the other owner is on this forum or not!

Is this deal still a good one?

Oh yes I would make this deal, I am a bit surprised by some of the responses. To obtain Cabrera in a Dynasty league is a coup particularly if you are dealing Zambrano (Red Flag) and an aging Lee. Your pitching is already loaded thus moving Zambrano will not do any harm IMHO, NICE DEALLY.
