Keeper help (what else) please

Postby petachi » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:27 am

League Rules:
12 team auction keeper league, 5x5 roto, allowed to keep 10, $250 total.(The yr column is # of years on the contract including this one)

I can choose from the following (* = my current keeper selections)

Ramon Hernandez 3 5
Carlos Pena 3 5
* Ryan Braun 2 5
Jose Reyes 2 40
Victor Martinez 2 16
* Troy Tulowitski 2 1
* Nate McLouth 3 3
Fred Lewis 3 5
* Jermaine Dye 3 11
* Stephen Drew 3 1
Nick Markakis 3 21
* Chad Billingsley 3 10
Joel Hanrahan 3 5
* Tim Lincecum 2 5
* Ricky Nolasco 3 5
Shaun Marcum 3 5
Brian Wilson 3 9
* Jonathan Broxton 3 5
Salomon Torres 3 5
Rafael Perez 3 5
Melvin Mora 3 5
Paul Maholm 3 5
* Joba Chamberlain 2 5

I'm pretty sure of my picks but interested if anybody else would disagree. I'm on the fence a bit about Markakis, Pena and Reyes. Markakis is a definite high-caliber OF but I'm thinking I can get him back if I want to for about the same price or a tad higher. Same thinking with Reyes in that I would love to have him but Hanley will also be available in our auction this year and I feel I can get one of them for around $40. Pena would be a keeper in my opinion but I don't see his AVG climbing much above 260 or his HR/RBI totals being much above 33/100 which I get from Dye with a better AVG for not much more $$.

Thoughts?

Woops....sorry there's no "yr" column :)

The first number after the names is the years left with the last # being the salary.

thanks

I would consider Markakis for 3 more years at $21 over Dye for $11. I think that has the potential to bring a long term reward to you.

I would not keep Reyes for $40 when you have Tulo & Drew locked in for $1 each. With you having 2 of the top 5-7 SS's locked up for the next couple of years no need for Reyes plus you have the potential to create a bidding war for the two stud SS's due to lack of available SS talent thus cutting into 2 of the other teams available $$ for later.
