Scoring Help

Postby Seamannn » Wed Feb 04, 2009 1:16 am

Hey, im new here but it seems like a great and helpful site. Glad to be a member.

I do a 10 team-points only league with my friends and we use our own scoring. In past years pitchers have been dominant and won our leagues with strikeouts being worth a ridiculous amount of points. Now, this year we want a scoring where hitters are more dominant and pitchers aren't taken til at least mid second round instead of early first round.

Old Scoring:
R 1
1B 1
2B 2
3B 3
HR 4
RBI 2
SH 1
SF 1
SB 2
CS -2
K -2
- - -
IP 1
W 5
L -3
CG 5
SHO 7
SV 3
ER -1
HBP -1
K 3

Brand New Scoring:
R 1
1B 1
2B 2
3B 3
HR 4
RBI 1
SF 1
SB 2
CS -2
K -1
- - -
IP 1
W 3
L -3
CG 3
SHO 5
SV 3
ER -1
K 1

I want a scoring where you need to grab all the studs before you even think about that first pitcher (CC,Lincecum,Johan). What can I change on my new scoring to make it the perfect scoring and a great league? Thanks guys.

use excel or open office's spreadsheet application... called calc I believe.

just make a simple sheet that takes your new point values + last year's stats and compare it to last years.

It takes a little bit of work but it's worth doing...

Judging by the changes you made, you have drastically reduced pitcher's value. I'm not sure how much more your pitchers are earning than your hitters but what you've done is take about 430 points of value off of someone like Santana. If he strikes out 200 in a season.. he's going to go from earning 600 points for that to 200... plus the drop in win value takes away 40% of the points he earned for wins.

I've never been of the opinion that hitters and pitchers need to earn similar amount of points... it just makes the league different so don't totally neuter the originality of your league.
