Keeper help in NL auction

Postby BigLebowski » Tue Feb 03, 2009 1:07 pm

11 team NL only 23 player rosters. 5x5. $200 cap

Would you keep any of the following players based on salary alone.

Kelly Johnson $10
Pedro Feliz $4
Troy Tulowitzki $11
Jesus Flores $5
Todd Wellmeyer $5

Thanks for the help. Leave a link and I'll help in return.

Kelly Johnson $10 ;-D but close enough to drop
Pedro Feliz $4 ;-D yes again but close to his real value
Troy Tulowitzki $11 ;-D price is right on the button
Jesus Flores $5 ;-D - but he's close enough to drop also
Todd Wellmeyer $5 ;-D worth twice as much

All of these guys should earn their prices, but not much more - call 'em borderline, but cheap enough to keep.

Tulo and Wellmeyer would be the two I'd keep.

auction keeper questions can only be answered when all the players are listed that you plan to keep...in your particular situation, the correct answer depends on whether you own for ex. jrollins at $20 or bwebb at $15..if you already have some built in value as keepers then kjohnson, ttulowitzki and twellemeyer make a lotta sense.. i would expect those guys to earn at least those amounts..i have some doubts about wellemeyer due to the enormous increase in his IP..he may not make it through april
remember that it is not about what the players will sell for at auction, it is about what they will earn but your other keepers and their contracts will affect that decision

Based on salary alone I think the two obvious choices are Tulo and Wellmeyer. Feliz is close but I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over dropping him.

Mark Reynolds $7
Ryan Braun $7
Matt Kemp $13
Ryan Spilborgs $2
Mike Gonzalez $5
Hong-Chi Kuo $5
Chris Perez $10....border-line pick for me..waiting to see the bull-pen situation

I also have Kotchman at $10, but there are other 1B available that are much better and I don't want to lock myself in with Crotchman.

plenty of value there w/reynolds, braun, kemp, spilsborgh, gonzo..i'd keep KJ, tulo, and wellemeyer..8 guys = $59 (your call on coste, kuo, perez and myers) ..keeping pfeliz and mreynolds may doom you to last place in BA
kuo was roto gold in 08, wasnt he ?! but w/a $200 cap, i wouldnt carry any middle reliever/setup guys especially $5 ones
if you buy 2 C for $1 each that leaves $139 for 13 slots..that seems like it's probably an average/middle of the pack $ amount..if cperez makes it (and i think he will), your most pressing need would be an ace SP and another top solid SP
