Which 8 Keepers in an Auction League?(WHIR)

Postby kidsilk » Mon Feb 02, 2009 4:58 pm

I just took over this team in a 12 team,5x5 roto style, auction league, 260 dollars to spend per team. Each player has a 3 year contract where in the last year of the contract the owner can choose to keep the player for more years at $5 more per year or throw him back into the draft pool. I might make some trades before the draft but of the following who would you keep? I have to keep 8 players.

Garrett Atkins-$39
JImmy Rollins-$35
Dan Haren-$38
Prince Fielder-$25
Jayson Werth-$8
Freddy Sanchez-$17
Alfonso Soriano-$39
Francisco Cordero-$19
Ryan Dempster-$1
Paul Maholm-$1
Zach Duke-$5
Johnathan Sanchez- $2
Doug Davis-$1
Jay Bruce-$5

Which 8 would you keep?

hmm, I would go with Bruce, Rollins, Fielder, Soriano, Cordero, Dempster, Sanchez, and Haren

Harens price isnt exactly nice but i dont think theres much more value to grab anywhere else after the first few no brainer keepers, Atkins is way too expensive to i would let him go.

Some of those guys are way overpriced. I think with auction inflation you can certainly keep:
Rollins $35
Fielder $25
Dempster $1
Bruce $5
F. Cordero $19

Next 3 are tough:
J. Sanchez $2
Werth $8
Soriano $39

I would not pay $38 for Haren. That is way ovepriced and you may as well keep a $1 or $2 scrub and free up the money.

Werth for $8 is OK.
Soriano for $39 is a bit pricey, but at least you might get some decent value in return.

I would look to deal Soriano if you can get decent return for him and esp if you can free up some money. You could use the cash to upgrade him to a more reliable hitter.

sorry i didn't notice dempster. i'd prolly switch him and maholm tho i do like maholm. maybe if you want to free up some bucks throw haren or soriano back and keep maholm. but haren was actually pretty amazing last yr so if he can do that again he's worth the price tag. but if guys like maholm or j sanchez can turn the corner to consistency you've got a couple of bargains on your hands imo

haren is WAY too overpriced to keep, as is atkins. rollins and fielder are decently priced, dempster, maholm, sanchez and bruce are all solid or very good keepers, soriano is a bit pricey at $39 but worth keeping over anyone else.

well, not to be too harsh but you have taken over an average team at best...but there is always hope

keep:
fielder
rollins (and trade him to a contender midseason for a favorable 2010 contract)
haren ( " " " " " " )
bruce
dempster
maholm
fcordero
werth

that is 8 for $135

perhaps some owner will take a pkg of soriano and jsanchez for a decent contract before your auction
