Try to make sure the commish isn't some 15 year old kid. And try not to search the forums at CBS, Yahoo, or ESPN for leagues. If you joined a league that was on a forum here, expose the poster.

The only way to totally prevent that is to not join custom leagues or leagues with commissioners. If you join a standard league on ESPN for example, there is no commissioner, so no rules/settings changes.

Well I think the best thing to do is join established leagues or be the commissioner yourself. Public leagues are no fun. Personally I don't run into this much, but in a less established league I see how it could be a problem.

What you do, in this case, is rent a car, and build a bomb. Why, you might ask? Well, good question. Put that bomb in the trunk (for bomb building tips, try Google). Then, drive the rental car to your commish's house/apartment. (oh yeah, make sure you get the insurance for the car, it is stupid not to) Drive said rental car right into the front door of said commish, preferably while he/she is home. Jump out of the car and run like hell, or a cheetah (they are fast, or so I have heard). Detonate the bomb (for instructions on building a detonator, try Google).
Problem solved, no more douche to deal with. Threaten other league members to have you become commish.

We are constantly changing the rules in our league. I say better to fix something than to let a problem snowball. We try to make rule changes by consensus though and if possible make them apply to next season, and before any deadlines they might affect (before the draft, keeper deadline, etc.)

I try only to play in leagues with people that I know in person. Those tend to have a greater success and are usually pretty easy places to workout conflicts or issues like these.
