weeks or hardy

Postby grammysboy » Sun Feb 01, 2009 11:33 pm

I play in a modified keeper league. Players can be kept for one year after they have been bought at the auction at the salary they were bought for. Free agents cost $10. I have Rickie Weeks at $14 and JJ Hardy at $10 and am trying to decide whether to keep either of them. Middle infielders typically go for a premium in our auction. Should I keep either or both or put them both back into the auction?

All things being equal, Hardy for me fairly easily ... and he is cheaper.

As someone who's watched both of them play so many times that I'm fairly sure it's entirely unhealthy somehow, I'd take Hardy with ease. His plate discipline continues to improve, leading to improved pitch selection, which has allowed his above average power to show through. He has 50 HR the last 2 years, a nice number for a SS. I think expecting .280/25/85 with ~80 runs is very fair, with the chance to play even a bit better. Of course he doesn't give you speed. Weeks will give you the SB, and he still has that ever elusive potential of breaking out, but if he doesn't you could be looking at another .250/15/50 type year with ~90 runs and ~20 SB. Weeks has a much higher ceiling but a much lower floor. Given that Hardy is cheaper on top of it all, it's a no brainer to me.

hardy by far, the fact that he's $4 cheaper is only icing on the cake.
