I would likely rank your #8 guys as: 1. Big Z- I am not proud of myself for ranking him #1 here but think his best case is better than the rest of your choices best case. not saying he will achieve his best case but for a #8 keeper I think that is the way to go. 2. Ethier- would like him better if Manny would hurry up and sign with the Dodgers 3. Damon- can not see myself keeping a #8 keeper who is 35. I would rather go with the youth of Ethier if I kept an OF.
Def Z. He had that lasek procedure done. He attributed most of his streakiness to his vision last year. Zambrano on a mediocre day is an ace on any team.
I like Damon for next year, but I'd keep Ethier. Zambrano is still overrated, as his peripherals have declined and he's still something of an injury risk.
Call me crazy, but I like Doumit out of that group. A slugging catcher who doesn't actually have to play catcher, that is a big advantage...plus you know all the other decent ones will be kept. If he can hit close to .300 with 20 homers and 75 or 80 RBI that is very nice value. Big Z doesn't do much for me...K rate was ridiculously low last year, control was predictably terrible, to much risk. Not an ace or even a reliable #2 guy for me...he could be a Verlander-esque team killer this year. Ethier would be my next choice...I like him a lot, and his second half last year was something special.
