Burnett for Meche

Postby packers140 » Sat Jan 31, 2009 1:56 am

Dynasty League 4x4. Keep as many keeprs as you want. I'm keeping Fielder, Bay, Ordonez, Ethier. Salary cap is 260 and Fielder is 9, Ordonez 9, Bay 9, and Ethier 7. Burnett is 22 and Meche is 11 should I do this trade. I'm not keeping Meche but figured Burnett is a keeper at 22.

I wouldn't feel comfortable keeping A.J. Burnett at that price tag given that he just got paid. Look at his first season post contract signing in Toronto. Look at his contract year in Florida, and now again in Toronto. Maybe it's a coincidence, likely not. Now that he's paid, expect minor bumps and bruises to keep ol' soft AJ out for periods of time.

Help with mine please?

While I agree going from Meche at $11 to Burnett at $22 is an upgrade I don't think Burnett's value is that high in a draft. High teens at most.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

I wouldn't keep either one, but I would make the trade just so I could drop Burnett back into the pool and have a chance at him in the draft.

Burnett for $22 seems about right to me in a healthy season, but you never know with Burnett. It's certainly better than Meche for $11.

ayebatter's suggestion seems good. ;-D

i'm gonna go against the grain and say i'd rather have meche at $11 than burnett at $22. i just don't feel comfortable with burnett's ability to stay healthy and i think meche is really underrated for what he is. that said, i wouldn't keep either of them at their prices.

Not a bad move. Though I would stay away from him unless his asking price is just too good to pass up. Should be better options out there.

I am going to agree that Burnett is too much at 22. Too much risk. I would stick with Meche.

I like the idea of dealing for A.J. but not keeping it... good thinking. By dropping him back in the pool you have the opportunity to try and get him at a more reasonable price, or more likely, give someone else the opportunity to overpay for him and cripple their cap.

Now that is some excellent strategy advice, and I agree wholeheartedly!!!
