Keeper help

Postby mrdirt73 » Fri Jan 30, 2009 11:39 pm

6th year of a 6x6 roto league (2b and H are the extra cats)

I can keep 8, and I pick 8th.

Hanley
Utley
Sizemore
Longoria
(must keeps right?)

Alex Rios
Nick Markakis
(at least one if not both I'm thinking)

Ortiz
Alexei Ramirez
Joey Votto
Francisco Liriano

Is it time to take a chance on replacing Ortiz for some youth?

I'd keep the first six plus Ortiz and Votto. ;-D

I like Alexei, but his value is in MI, where you have two superior players.
Be excellent to each other.

I am suprised with the first two guys. If you play a MI then it is ramirez and votto...easy. If you dont play a MI then you have someone to start while utley is out and then you have great trading material

You have to consider weather Utley will be available to start the season. Even if he's ready for the opener, how healthy is he going to be for the rest of the season? If your league uses MI, or if you have a util or 2 I'd keep Alexi and Ortiz.

Might also consider Liriano if a lot of SP's are being kept by other managers.

1b Ortiz (does he have 1b elgibility?) I hope so....
SS Hanley
MI A. Ramirez (what elgibility does he have, he could have 2b/SS/OF/MI in your league). You have to keep him. He's a 30/30 potential player with utility positions. They will move him around if they experience any injuries. Possibly even at 3b too). THink of him as a modern-day Figgins with more power and that is very valuable.
2b Utley
3b Longoria
OF Sizemore
OF Nick Markakis
SP Francisco Liriano

Look I know you have both Hanley and Utley already but the MIssile is a MUST KEEP unless you cannot trade him away for say a 1b or another SP or top end RP. See if you can deal him for Krod, Hamilton, or something.

Liriano is back to full strength and we all know what kind of a dominant SP he can be. He's PROVEN major league ace now. Votto is only a young player with "upside'. Your other guys are PROVEN and will go quicker in the draft than Votto might. There is no way I'd drop a player like the Missile or Liriano for an "upside" 1b like votto. There are too many other upside or breakout 1b in the game today, not to mention I expect a return to form for Fielder. 1b remember is one of the deeper positions. Add M-Cab to that list to replace any guys that might have retired or past their primes. Do not forget.

This decision is a NO BRAINER.

I love Alexei Ramirez man I'm tellin ya. You have excellent insurance for Utley in case he experiences any setbacks and we all know he could face that. He's never been a huge injury problem before, but you never know. He's played a lot of games and might starting to catch up to him. Once the season starts, you should get great value for Utley or Alexei and you can shore up a weakness in your team. You have the bargaining chips in your favor being stocked up on MI. Remember, those positions are the thinnest by far. It looks like you need pitching more than anything else. I'd back up Longoria at 3b with a steady vet like Glaus/Cantu/Chipper etc.....focus on your pitching in the first several rounds unless a steal for a starting position (3rd or 4th OF, starting pitcher, starting relief pitcher, corner infielder, 2nd or 3rd UTILITY etc, not what you've already got covered) comes available to you.

I hope I've set the record straight for you and cleared up any confusion. This to me isn't even worth arguing about.

Sorry guys, I should have added in the first post that we don't have CI, or MI. We have 4 OF's, and 3 util spots.

Votto and Ortiz are probably your best options here, though I wouldn't be all that opposed to keeping Alexei over Ortiz.
