Wigginton WHIR

Postby auclairkeithbc » Fri Jan 30, 2009 11:22 pm

Does anyone have any good info on Wigginton for 2009 and maybe slightly beyond? I keep reading that he might end up taking a backup UT job for the Phillies or some other team, while I also read that he is holding out for a 3 year 17M+ dollar contract. there seems to be a huge disparity.

i am in a slow auction dynasty league and have to make a decision within a day on whether to match a 3 year offer for him, which is a little more than i'd like to spend on him. however, it is a 28 team league and there are not many FA 3B available (Glaus, Chipper) and both will likely be budget busters for me.

if wigginton is going to get 450+ AB this year, it would probably make the match worth it. if he gets 20 games at 3B at least along with that 450+ AB (hopefully more), it would definitely be my best options.

can i get some advice from some people with some better insight than me?

At this point, his chances of getting 450 ABs is very slim. His defense at 3rd has been on the decline so he isn't likely to get 20 games there either.

I havent heard anything promising on him additionally :(

He seems to always come on and produce but it's so hard to invest in him when hes up in the air. It seems as of today he is very likely to just slide into some filler role (probably for a contender).

The Twins wanted to sign him, just not to a 3 year deal @ 6M per. I would think he'd lower his asking price a little for an everyday job instead of taking a backup job (with a chance to compete with feliz at 3B) with philly especially since Philly will only pay 3M max supposedly.

I truly am looking for a couple people to tell me to go ahead and pull the trigger. Even if he gets only 350-400 AB i might not be totally screwed, as long as they are regularly scheduled, since it is H2H and i will NOT have another 3B guy for the playoffs if he is benched at the end of the season.

I would not do it. I understand about the low number of suitable 3rd baseman but that deal will mess you up for 3 years.

Ill put it this way. The O's had interest in him and I dont think they were going to give him a full time spot. I luv the O's to death but lets face it, if he cant get time there hes not getting it anywhere.

I would let wiggy play elsewhere..
Best case is he is a DH somewhere...But I don't see a ton of teams needing a DH

Worst case, a start a week and the occasional pinch hit duty

Glaus would be a solid pick. He might play some SS at some point with their lack of MI, you never know...

I'd take him over Chipper because I think he's slightly less of a risk.

Chipper would also cost you more money.

Wiggy would be a good addition as a backup option to either one of these if your able to land either.

Glaus should come cheaper than Chipper and would be a solid option at 3b in a 28 team league, he has the potential to go 280/30/100. You'll take that.

Be careful he might miss the first few weeks. I might go after a guy like hairston or something like that to cover your behind to start the year. A good player with multi-elgibility would really help also.

I passed on Wigginton. Hopefully I can get Glaus for a reasonable price. Thanks for all your help.

I hope you have some sort of Util guy to field 3B if you get Glaus. He may miss the first month
of the season or more due to surgery.
