I always figured it would be AussieDodger who was the first around here to admit he had a boycrush. O:-)

His front foot or back foot?

He opens his front foot a little, but you have to if you want to give your hips enough room to fire. And if you freeze frame at the actual moment his foot plants, it is right around where most pros are. It's only on the follow through where it rotates more outward, which doesn't matter.

I'd say his mechanics are nearly perfect.

His front foot, before the swing. Sometimes it's more pronounced, look at 5:32 and 7:05 of the highlight video posted. Usually it looks very normal but on occasion it sticks out because of the angle. To what degree he opens his front foot is a function of the speed of the ball, and I assume HR Derby pitches are batting practice fastballs at every level.

Update on Bryce Harper. Check out his final 2009 numbers.

115 AB
72 hits (finished the season on a 23-game hitting streak)
.626/.723/1.339 for a 2.062 OPS
39 walks 5 strikeouts
22 doubles
9 triples
14 homers

Oh, and he was 36 of 39 in SBs.
