Who's the better prospect?

Postby elcid256 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:58 am

I am in a long term keeper league. I am looking to draft a pitching prospect.

Who is the better prospect long-term?

and Who has the better shot of playing more this year?

1) Brett Anderson (OAK)

or

2) Tommy Hanson (ATL)

I appriciate any input. Thank You

Tommy Hanson is most likely in the braves opening day rotation.. assuming he does not blow it in spring training.. Hanson also has the better tools.. but as Todd Van Poppel will tell you, that dosn't always make for the better pitcher..

hanson is definately the better pitcher in my opinion and i would take him simply because i like to stay away from A's pitchers...they are usually a project of GM Billy Beane. not sure if anderson was built in the A's system or through a trade though. either way i'll take hanson because of his k's upside. not sure if he'll break camp in the rotation or not...their rotation is currently derek lowe, javier vasquez, jurrjens, kawakami, campillo...he will have to beat out campillo for that 5th spot but who knows, campillo showed some flashes of solid last year. hanson may not be up until may.

Both are top pitching prospects, but I think I prefer Hanson. It looks like he might start the season in the rotation and he definitely has ace stuff.
He once hit a ball between my legs so hard that my center-fielder caught it on the fly backing up against the wall.

If Satch (Paige) and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time.

Both are great. I'd personally take Anderson, even with Hanson having the advantage of being the NL. However, if you want someone to pitch this year in the Majors, then it's Hanson.

Both of these guys are on most everyones 5 star prospect list. As far as I am concerned (but seriously who I am to be giving out advice) Hanson and what he did during the AFL puts him over the top of Anderson, IMHO.

You're ______ joking right?
I hate Sabean and Colletti but I wouldn't let that stop me taking Lincecum and Billingsley.
Maybe that sentence belongs in the I'm Drunk thread.

No he came from Ikea and they built him at the Coliseum.

In all seriousness, he came from Arizona in the Haren deal.

Sure. ;-7

Back on topic, I'd go Anderson because he seems to be the most complete package.
He might only be on a short leash for '09 of 150ish total innings, but he is a good investment for '10. ;-D

Just more info on Anderson:

He was not "built" (at least early on) in the A's system. He came over from the D-Backs system as part of the Dan Haren trade.
