First Sig Attempt (WIP)

Slower days at work have led to me start learning how to use GIMP, because I'm cheap and don't want to pay for photoshop. I have some more tutorials to read, but here is what I have so far. Any comments negative or positive are welcome. I'd take any suggestions and tips you pros offer. One thing I'd like to do is to highlight Curtis or add a glow behind him. Hopefully I'll find it somewhere in one of these tutorials.

the left side with all that empty white space is no good. you have to have something there. also, a simple 1 px black border would do wonders.

Ah, I forgot to do the border! I got so caught up in copying and resizing the image I completely overlooked it. Any suggestions on what to add in the open space?

maybe blend in something that has to do with cooperstown? maybe have the old milwaukee braves stadium in the bg? its hard to say what to simply just throw in there since most of the sig is already done. in general, you sort of have to plan your sig first or at least be willing to change while making it. your actual logo and blurring of it takes up so much of the sig that it would be hard to simply add something in.

I like what you tried on the second sig. As Snakes mentioned though, the left side does look a little empty. Maybe if you tried the whole shadow effect on both sides of the logo it would take up some of that space. Just a thought. Good job though.

I added an old Braves Jersey in the open space. it's not showing up for some reason though....

I also put this together, not sure how I feel about it.

Not bad at all. I would...

-drop his name down to bottom
-take the #1 right out or somehow have go with the name so you dont have the big number all alone.
-take the blended pic of him in the background out and center the logo.

I know it seems like a lot but its really not, just trying to help. Very nice job though for you first few.

I actually had the portrait pic out and the logo centered at first, but changed it thinking it was too plain. I did like it better without the portrait actually. Thanks for the responses

Tried something a little different, went with a spotlight look. What ya think?
