Help with my 6 keepers, 12 team league WHIR

Postby Jmac84 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 2:06 pm

Hey guys, haven't posted for awhile. Anyway, I was hoping for some help with my keepers. Let me lay it out there for ya...12 team league, 6 keepers. It's a head to head league with 6x6 scoring, including OPS and Holds. We give up a pick in the round that the keepers was drafted the previous year. Normal starting offensive positions with two utility spots. We have 7 pitchers, 2 SP, 2 RP, and 3 P with weekly lineup changes. Teams are made up of 25 players. Here are my options, starting with the players I will almost certainly keep, followed by their round:

David Wright (1st)
Nick Markakis(10th)
Jay Bruce (7th)
Carlos Quentin (25th)

Johan Santana (1st, would move to a second rounder if I keep him with Wright)
Rich Harden (15th round)
Shane Victorino (7th round)
Joakim Soria (12th round)
Lastings Milledge (25th round)
Carlos Delgado (25th round)
Scott Kazmir (6th round)

I'm trying to swing a Santana and Quentin for Howard deal. I need some infield help. I don't really like keeping pitchers because in our format, I believe that I can split pitching every week by exploiting matchups so I like to load up on offense. Also, anyone listed in the 25th round would be bumped to the 24th round if I kept two from that same round. I realize this is long but I appreciate your input. I promise to look at your thread if you post a link and give me some insight. Thanks guys.

Rich Harden (15th round)
Shane Victorino (7th round)
Joakim Soria (12th round) ;-D he is good value here
Lastings Milledge (25th round) ;-D I think I would keep him for a 25 over Bruce for a 7
Carlos Delgado (25th round)
Scott Kazmir (6th round)

santana is a no-brainer and i would not trade him and quentin for howard, quentin in the 25th round is incredible value. i wouldnt really mind victorino or milledge with the last spot, except your OF is pretty full already. harden is pretty good as a 15th rounder, but i'm staying away this year since he's already injuried. kazmir just isn't very good value in the 6th round. leaves the last spot between delgado and soria. i'd probably go with soria just for the youth in a keeper league, though delgado will probably provide more value over his draft slot.

First, don't move Santana and Quinten for Howard. I know you don't like keeping pitchers, but I think you should keep Santana, go with the other 4 you were thinking about keeping, then add Delgado to that list because a 24th round pick is great value for him.

I would definitely keep the 4 guys you had ranked 1st along with Santana and Delgado.

Delgado is a big value that late, and Santana is a pretty decent value as a 2nd rounder (especially in a keeper of this type).

My 7th guy if i had one would be Soria, who is a good value in the 12th, but not amazing.

Help me out with mine (if you can)...

David Wright (1st)
Nick Markakis(10th)
Jay Bruce (7th)
Carlos Quentin (25th)
Carlos Delgado (25th round)
Johan Santana

I'd keep these 6 and not look back. Delgado even at his age could bash out 275/30/115 and late round value is worth the risk on a player of Delgado's potential. Everyone says he's done? He's very streaky, but can really carry your team at times. I'd go in with at least your 1b/3b and OF covered up.

Do not reach on any pitchers...

You dare not give up Quentin and Santana both. Quentin's value there is a steal.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

I'm going to jump on the Soria boat as well:

David Wright (1st)
Nick Markakis(10th)
Jay Bruce (7th)
Carlos Quentin (25th)
Johan Santana (2nd)
Joakim Soria (12th)

I know you said you don't like keeping pitchers, but don't trade Santana and Quentin.
I don't see the benefit to you. And someone would get Quentin at 25 or 24. Ugh.
If you're just absolutely set on not going with Soria, I guess go Delgado at 24th but
really Soria is for real, and this is a keeper league. Besides, Soria will have more
trade value than Delgado I'm guessing despite the league setup.
