I would much rather see Longoria in the 3 hole followed by Pena and then Burrell 5th.

You would be wasting too much with Upton leading off and Longoria second. I think Iwamura will put together a full season and become a productive leadoff guy. Then you have to go with BJ 3rd and Longo 4th.

Upton is our best on base performer, so realistically he should be leading off. I have no issue with him leading off as he is quite a bit better at that then Iwamura is. Heck if you go by the book on setting a lineup, Upton should leadoff with Pena hitting 2nd, but that would be alot of strikeouts at the top of the order.

the lineup I proposed was thrown around on DRaysBay when discussing how to formulate a lineup based on Tom Tango's linear weights for events in certain spots in the order, although I'm perfectly fine with an

1) Upton
2) Pena
3) Longoria
4) Burrell
5) Crawford

type deal. Essentially Crawford is most likely going to be the 5th best hitter on this team, so despite his speed getting him AB shouldn't be essential. The OBP at the top of this lineup would be orgasmic to say the least, although I still think its expecting alot of Longoria. Maybe its the way Chone hates him, I don't know, but I'm not sure he puts up a better season than either Upton or Pena and possibly even Burrell (offensively, of course, when factoring in his defense hes the most valuable of everyone).

The other issue is that of R-L-R-R-L. The only way to logically fix that is the Upton/Crawford/Longo/Pena/Burrel to make it R-L-R-L-R-S-L/R-L (aki)-R.

I do expect some nice regression for Crawford, but I'm not sure how much I like Crawford 2nd. Maybe I just liked the Small Sample Size look of him batting 5th, who knows. Its not like having Pena bat second gives us that many more Ks at the top of the order. I mean it would be normal to have one of Upton/Pena/Longo on base at any given time for Burrell, wouldn't it?

Iwamura and Crawford are both lefthanded, so that they hit 1-2 at the top probably wont happen.
One of them should stay leading off, the other will have to move down.
With his speed I like CC, but his success vs lefties isnt that great.
so vs righties, it could be CC, vs lefties Iwamura.

But I really hate Crawford at 7th, so it might be that CC stays in leadoff for good, and Iwamura in the 8th.

The idea of Pena hitting in the 2nd freaks me out.
