Advice Sought. WHIR!!!

Postby chargerss24 » Sat Jan 17, 2009 11:51 pm

I'm in a 12-team roto (standard stat + OBP/Holds) auction keeper league. Currently I am $3.70 over my budget of $26. Here's my current team with values attached:

C - D. Navarro ($0.10)
C - J. Clement ($0.10)
1B - P. Fielder ($2.90)
2B - R. Cano ($1.50)
SS - J. Rollins ($1.20)
3B - E. Longoria ($1.80)
MI - H. Kendrick ($0.80)
CI - Adam LaRoche ($0.60)
OF - J. Bruce ($0.90)
OF - N. Markakis ($2.60)
OF - A. Rios ($1.80)
U - J. Ellsbury ($1.70)
U - P. Sandoval ($0.60)
U - M. Mora ($0.30)

SP - J. Santana ($2.90)
SP - C. Hamels ($2.80)
SP - J. Peavy ($2.10)
SP - Z. Greinke ($1.00)
SP - D. Price ($0.70)
RP - B. Ryan ($1.10)
RP - K. Wood ($1.10)
RP - R. Madson ($0.10)
RP - J. Arrendondo ($1.00)

I can keep as many players as I want, as long as I'm under the $26 cap. My questions are:
1. Who you move via trade to get under budget?
2. Who would you seek in said trade(s)?
3. What areas do I need improvement in? (I think I need to shore up my MI/CI spot)

Thanks for your help in advance, and WHIR!!! ;-D

without knowing everyone elses team i can't really give you an analysis of you who should specfically trade for. but with 3 stud SPs like that i'd trade one of them along with the useless contracts of laroche and kendrick. but once you do that i agree with you and get some infielders maybe another cheap closer with a definitive role.

thanks for the help with mine.

i've never done an auction league so maybe take my advice with a grain of salt. it looks like you are overpaying for fielder and markakis though. both guys are around johan type salaries. maybe i would try to move those 2 guys to upgrade one C spot, CI, MI, and/or a UTIL spot. however, those 2 guys are important to your lineup. maybe try to move one of your aces and one of fielder or markakis to upgrade one of the aforementioned areas. without knowing any other possible trade senarios and dollar values, its hard to get a grasp on what type of moves you could make.

hope that helps.

Thanks for the help with mine -

I too have never done an auction draft, but like the guys above, you do have three pitching studs and you could considering moving one of them.

Arrendondo due to his setup role is probably overpriced now, Cano at that price... is overpriced, I think. I've tried to count of ad laroche twice now and I've given up... I'm pretty sure you can drop a dime on a guy and replace him as well. In the end you probably have to trade one of your big pitchers for someone who is lower priced but I'm sure there's value out there.

My first choice would be to move one or maybe even both of Cano and Kendrick for cheaper second base options. Neither of them have warranted the price tag on them, and theres usually one or two people who would pay for their perceived worth rather than their produced worth.

After that it basically comes down to one of your stud pitchers. I also agree you should absolutely try to move Arredondo, but being a non-Closer Reliever at that price I would imagine he is close to impossible to move.

I would have to agree that you should trade from your strength which is clearly pitching. I have never played in a league like this, but to me the problem is that if you are going to give up a Peavy or a Hamels, you obviously want equal value in return, but that equal value is probably going to have a similar price tag, thus defeating the whole point of making the trade.

I think you would have to find another team with plenty of Cap Room and try to get them to take a combo package.

Maybe combine Hamels with Cano for a 2B upgrade
or Hamels with Ellsbury for an Studlier player. Its the only way I see it working. Although I have no idea whether there is anyone in your league that is enough under the cap.
