Just finished my draft

Postby red » Sun Mar 07, 2004 3:01 am

I feel like I'm going to be competitive, but I think I'm a move or two away from being elite.
Here is my team; please give me your thoughts on how to improve it!

C Vic Mart
1b Delgado
2b Durhm
3b Chavez
SS Reyes
OF Giles
OF Vlad
OF Kearns
DH G. Anderson

P K. Brown
P R. Wolf
P. B. Myers
P. Moyer
P J. Williams

CP Izzy

1b- morneau, 3b- ensberg, ss, Alex S. Gonzalez, OF J.D. Drew; OF J. Cruz;
SP- AJ Burnett, SP, Jon Lieber, SP C. Pavano, SP Affeldt, SP Weaver
CP Baez/R. Soriano/J. Nathan

How can I turn this team into a winner?

Well, your C and 2B are filled with question marks, but the rest loks quite impressive. Try to upgrade at C and 2B and hope your pitchers stay healthy!

Ensberg and one of your bench SP could be great trade bait for teams in need of a 3B.

Put reyes at 2nd(unless he isnt eligible there yet) and move alex gonzalez off the bench, he's better than durham.

Only 2 of your pitchers were in the Top 25 for strikeouts last year (both in top 15) and they both pitched over 200 innings. Not sure how good or bad that is, just something to consider. But, yeah, I'd concentrate on C and 2B.

You have a 13 player bench? Yikes...

Yeah, it's a keeper league, everybody is on a contract (2, 3, or 4 years) and we don't have spots for injured reserve. Hence, when a guy goes down, you need to replace him with a reserve. If you drop him you void his contract. Which sucks.

I like the idea of Ensberg and a bench SP to trade up. I figure Ensberg is probably my most useful trading chip. Not exactly sure who to trade up to-- I think I'd like better pitching, one more really solid guy.
Anyone have suggestions for a really solid player I could get for Ensberg plus? What's the value of that?
(H2H points) Shoot for a Matt Morris type (even though he's a total disappointment every year)?
