my league in years past has always used OBP but about middle of the way thru last year i started thinking that SLG might be a better overall analysis of the player compared to OBP. Is that true? Do both of these stats heavily favor big boppers?
Here are the settings of my league last year: (12 team, Roto, Re-draft)
R--HR--RBI--SB--K--Avg--Obp__________W--L--K--Sv--Era--Whip
I feel like we need to add a pitching category to even things out. Suggestions? (Quality Starts) I'm also not a huge fan of L as a category and wouldnt mind replacing it as well.
Any overall suggestions on tweaks to my league categories would be great!! Thanks in advance.

Why not just use OPS?

That's the ticket.

As much as that's more realistic, avg is a traditional stat that will probably never be replaced, useless as it is. I would drop OBP and SLG in favor of OPS (or even better, OPS+). Then I would drop L and add QS.

having OPS and a component of OPS (AVG, which is counted twice in OPS) is pretty foolish.
My leagues dropped AVG 5 years ago and no one has complained.

Actually, it isn't. By most estimates, not making an out is 1.7x more valuable than getting extra bases. So it makes sense to double count AVG (or preferably OBP) by having it as a stand-alone stat and then also as a component to OPS.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.
