With the Smoltz signing and now Saito you have to think a trade for a catcher is around the corner somewhere involving one or two of Buchholz/Masterson/Bowden/Delcarmen.

I see this as maybe a prelude to a trade for Miguel Montero

...and I as a Yankee fan. Boston is being pretty damn shrewd this offseason.

Of course, as Yoda mentioned, this could end up becoming a team decimated by injuries.

Couple that with the possible fluke 08 seasons by Youk, Pedroia, and Lester, and this team could end up either winning it all or missing the playoffs and I wouldn't be surprised by either. Should be an interesting AL East this year, to say the least.

I think they should just pony up and dish out for Tek- He is one of the greatest game callers of our lifetime, and would compliment these Vet's great. So what if he plays 60% of the time, he's a major clubhouse presence and a leader. As a Sawx diehard he's always been one of my fav'es

Boy I would love for the Sox to resign Tek (automatic out).

Yeah, but he's so awesome at calling games and handling the pitching staff. ;-7

I'd be utterly shocked if Varitek was in a Red Sox uniform this season.
