................the righty has narrowed his choices to two teams in each league.............

Cerrone also relays a Tom Verducci report from the MLB Network saying Martinez recently rejected a one-year, $7MM offer from an AL team. He must really dislike that team, because he's not going to get that kind of money elsewhere

I wonder which are his 4 teams of choice. NY/NY & LA/LA?
Any chance that $7 mil offer was from Boston just before they went after Penny?

I don't know if he turned it down because he hates the AL team (whoever it is). Pedro made some other interesting comments. I think he really wants to remain in the NL and he will get an incentive-based package that will let him out-earn $7M. I also never realized the relationship he had with Fred Wilpon until he talked about it recently. I think he really wants to come back to the Mets and end on a different note than it did currently. The logical side of my brain isn't sold that that's a great idea but the emotional side is. :-D

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I'd be surprised if the Yankees offered it to him. He and Posada have a history. I'm not sure they'd want to bring him in at all.

FRIDAY: From Mike Puma of the New York Post:

Martinez said he's open to pitching just about anywhere in 2009, but the Mets are far and away his first choice.

Whoever gets him is going to get a bargain in my opinion (unless their name is Sabean or Colletti :-D :-b ).

I'm pretty confident that Washington wasn't the AL team that offered him 7M. :-b

I'd like to see him return to the mets, I'd offer him a 1yr 8 mil, with an incentive for +6 mil if he hits 200 ip.
