No matter which hand, and even if he gets on the field for Opening Day, the broken finger may dwindle for a while and give him some early problems. He'll eventually get over it and smack over 40 home runs, but early on he may struggle.

They say its a chip fracture of the middle finger of his right hand. He'll be back for opening day unless the fracture affects the tendon, then it might be 6-8 weeks. Not good for anyone who already drafted him. Being a slow starter already, this magnifies that a little. Something to think about if you haven't drafted yet.
For what it's worth this reminds me of the only broken bone I ever sustained. I broke my left ringer finger on the growth plate pretty badly during my junior year of wrestling. I couldn't wrestle for 2 weeks, then I did with a splint for two weeks. After 4-6 weeks I was essentially fine for baseball season.
While I know I am not the caliber of athlete that Thome is, my personal experience tells me not to sweat this injury.

This might bea good methoed to get him cheap in leagues, especially H2H. If your team is good enough to make the playoffs, Thome should be fine by then. In Roto he might hurt you a bit if he's bad or not playing to start the season.
But a hand injury, especially on the lead hitting hand, is not a good thing no matter how minor it appears.

I have Thome and I've altered my draft strategy a bit. I'm in a keeper league with Vlad, BBoone and Tejada along with Jimmy T, so power isn't a huge concern. However, I'm targeting Palmiero or someone like that (35/100) to fill in at first if Thome's out longer than expected. Klesko, Nevin, Texiera, etc...around my 7 or 8 pick...10-12 rounds in normal leagues.
