Pohlad passes away

Postby buffalobillsrul2002 » Mon Jan 05, 2009 8:26 pm

Carl Pohlad passed away today. He was a pretty controversial guy with the way he handled the Twins.

What happens to the Twins in the wake of this? Are his sons taking over the team? And what will be the effect on baseball decisions (free agents and such) for the Twins?

Not to speak ill of the dead, but maybe now the Twins will start paying money for baseball players.
Why don't they just get a house that's already painted?

RIP... I heard that his son is taking over and he is just like his dad.

The son actually has a shot at seeing a new stadium built.

His sons are supposedly as frugal as he is, but time will tell. Never was a huge fan but two world titles were won under his watch so he did bring some good. RIP.

Yeah I get it that the Twins are cheap, but they have been spending a similar percentage of their revenues on payroll the last several years. The last I checked there was no requirement that owners run their team at a loss to make fans happy. Personally I'm just happy that they are spending significantly more than the mid/late 90's when they typically had one of the lowest payrolls in baseball.

FWIW - His son has effectively been running the team for the last several years. Very little is going to change from the ownership perspective.

Normally, a lot of my friends on Facebook comment on MN sports and nobody is saying a peep about this. I think it's a case of if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all.

R.I.P. Carl and thanks for keeping the Twins in MN (even if you did try to contract us).I hope that his family doesn't have as tight of grasp on their wallets as he did. It's sad that his miserly ways will always be his legacy... it didn't have to be that way. With a little more spending his legacy could have been one of the greatest owners ever because who knows what could have been had he spent some cash over the past 10 years.
