The problem is that the Cubs asploded (to use KC's word) in the playoffs two years running. The Russian roulette comment is very apt, but when you've scored 12 runs in your last six postseason games, you have to do something.

You can't understate this point. It's not like the Cubs didn't make the playoffs with the NL's best record last year w/o him.

It was a sarcastic comment pointing out that the Cubs were the #1 seed in the NL last year w/o Bradley.

I don't doubt their winning the NL central w/ or w/o Bradley. I was just commenting on others saying they just needed him for the playoffs.

They only need to be healthy in October. They can have their DL stints here and there throughout the season and the Cubs will survive - heck, they'll probably win the Central again with 100 games from Bradley and 20 starts from Harden.

It's the postseason when we need these guys. That's what this trade and any future trade is for.

agreed, although the Cubs still need a 5th starter, if they wanna save Hardens arm by limiting his innings/start.
Bradley's 3rd year is not guaranteed, so the the deal is $5.0 mill for 2009 + $4.0 mill signing bonus, $9.0 mill for 2010 and a $2.0 mill buyout on the 2011 option if he cant meet health requirements.
