Hanley or Arod WHIR

Postby bosoxrule43 » Sun Jan 04, 2009 4:12 pm

Ok guys, I know that this topic has probobly already been argued enough but I just returned to begin my banter of the 09 season. I have pick 1, and do I stick with Arod for my 3rd year with him or do I draft Hanley.

Hanley or A-Rod

Hanley and his high production across the board. Hanley can match Arod plus give you 20 or so more stolen bases.

Hanley. All that production and from a weaker position.

Just for comparison...I picked a SS and 3B you would get rounds later to help balance out the SS and 3B positions.

ARod (40HR / 20SB) & Theriot (0/20) - CBS only has 6 SS for 20+ SBs...take out Rollins, Hanley, and Reyes and you are only left with 3 players that would help make up the difference between drafting ARod and Hanley in the first round.
versus
Hanley (30HR / 40SB) & Chris Davis (30/0) - Compared to 22 3Bs that are projected for 20+ HRs

Hanley seems the clear choice in my book. Even with Teix signing with the Yankees, it's hard to argue Hanley's numbers...even on such a bad team. Both will score 100+ runs, but I suppose ARod makes up for 20 less SBs by adding 50 or so extra RBIs.

*These are not my projections, as I am having issues with Microsoft Excel on my new computer so I just went to CBS where my league is held and used their projections..
Good luck, feel free to PM me

I'd take Hanley even though I believe A-Rod has a potentially big year in store. 3B is fairly scarce in quality, but SS isn't nowhere as deep in decent options. A 5-cat stud at short is an absolute rarity, which gives extra incentive in taking Hanley.

As deep as 1B is, a case can also be made for Pujols.

Go with Hanley. SS has few top options (Rollins & Reyes).
